At 10 years old, Dharma is our eldest female and our founding Siberian.
"Kaya" can be translated from Native American to mean "Elder Sister".
She is a very vocal girl with a lot of enthusiasm and energy for a dog of
her age.
Dharma came into
our life like many dogs; we answered an advertisement in a local paper for
husky puppies. Although she was unregistered, we were able to view her
parents on site, and were reassured to see she was being raised within a
family that included two small children. Our daughter, Makayla was
only 9 months old when we brought Dharma home.
She had her wild
moments growing up, but Dharma has always been a wonderful house dog,
especially regarding our daughter and our cats. Now as she grows
older, she prefers more and more to have a quiet, comfy spot in the house
versus playtime outside in the kennel.
We caught the
obedience bug with Dharma when she was 6 years old and earned her Canine
Good Citizenship certificate with no outside, formal training. It was
some time before circumstances allowed us to enroll her in formal training
towards competition in Rally Obedience. Dharma finished her Rally
Novice title in only three consecutive trials, highlighted by a 4th in class
placement at her first All-Breed trial and then a 1st is class placement at
her very next trial at the Siberian Husky Club of Greater Chicago's 2006
Specialty show. She finished her Novice title at the Siberian Husky
Club of America's 2006 National Specialty show.
Most recently, Dharma
earned consecutive 1st place finishes in Rally Advanced A at the Siberian
Husky Club of Greater Chicago's 2007 Specialty shows, completing two legs
towards her advanced title, and continuing her perfect qualifying streak.
